Pimples or bumps on the lips or intimate (genital) area can happen for several

different reasons. It doesn’t always mean something serious, but it’s important to understand the possible causes. 👇

1. Blocked Oil Glands (Fordyce Spots)

Small white or yellowish bumps can appear on the lips or genital area because of visible oil glands.

Very common

Not painful

Not contagious

Usually harmless

2. Ingrown Hair

In the intimate area, shaving or waxing can cause ingrown hairs, which look like small pimples or red bumps.

3. Acne or Irritation

Just like other parts of the body, pores can become clogged with oil, sweat, or bacteria, leading to pimple-like bumps.

4. Cold Sores

If the bumps appear on the lips, especially with tingling or burning first, they might be cold sores caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1).

Usually form blisters

Can be contagious during outbreaks

5. Genital Infections

Painful blisters or sores in the intimate area could sometimes be linked to sexually transmitted infections, including genital herpes (HSV-2). These usually come with pain, itching, or fluid-filled blisters.

When to See a Doctor 🩺

You should consider medical advice if:

The bumps are painful or keep coming back

They turn into sores or blisters

There is fever, burning, or unusual discharge

They don’t heal after 1–2 weeks

✅ Important: Not every bump on the lips or intimate area is dangerous, but it’s best not to ignore persistent or painful symptoms.
