Not every red dot is dangerous — but some tiny red spots can be an early warning sign of a serious problem.
The most important thing is to know the difference.
🔴 1) Tiny flat red or purple dots that do NOT fade when you press them
These are usually called petechiae.
👉 They look like:
very tiny red, purple or brown dots
flat (not raised)
they do NOT turn white when you press them
⚠️ This can be a warning sign of:
low platelets
bleeding disorders
serious infections
problems with blood vessels
If these dots suddenly appear, spread quickly, or come with fever, weakness, dizziness, or unusual bruising — get medical help urgently.
🔴 2) Small bright-red raised dots that fade slowly and stay for years
These are commonly known as cherry angiomas.
👉 They usually:
are round and bright red
feel slightly raised
grow very slowly
are common after the age of 30
✅ In most people, these are harmless.
❗But you should still show a doctor if:
many appear suddenly
they start bleeding easily
their color or shape changes
⚠️ The most important warning sign you must remember
Press the red dot with your finger or a glass.
If it does NOT fade → this is more worrying.
If it turns pale and comes back → usually less serious.
🩺 Why doctors say not to ignore tiny red dots
The World Health Organization explains that some skin signs can be the first visible clue of blood or infection-related diseases — especially when they appear suddenly or with other symptoms.
🚨 Go to a doctor urgently if you also have:
fever
headache or body weakness
easy bruising
nose or gum bleeding
tiredness without reason
rapid spreading of red dots
Important for you (especially in Pakistan):
Do not self-treat these spots with creams or home remedies first.
A simple blood test can help find the real cause
