Here are 10 important signs you should never ignore 👇
1. Swelling in feet, ankles or face
When kidneys can’t remove extra fluid, it builds up in the body. This causes swelling, especially in the legs, feet and around the eyes.
2. Changes in urine (color, foam or amount)
Very dark urine, very little urine, or foamy/bubbly urine can be a sign that your kidneys are leaking protein.
3. Feeling tired all the time
Weak kidneys can cause waste to stay in your blood. This makes you feel exhausted, sleepy and low in energy.
4. Puffy eyes, especially in the morning
Swelling around the eyes is a common early sign of kidney trouble, mainly due to protein loss in urine.
5. Dry and itchy skin
Healthy kidneys keep the right balance of minerals in your blood. When they fail, your skin may become very dry and itchy.
6. Shortness of breath
Extra fluid can collect in the lungs. Low red blood cells caused by kidney problems can also make breathing difficult.
7. Poor appetite and nausea
Toxins building up in the body can make you feel sick, nauseated and not interested in food.
8. Muscle cramps (especially at night)
Kidney problems can disturb calcium and other minerals, leading to painful muscle cramps.
9. Trouble concentrating or dizziness
Low oxygen in the brain (from kidney-related anemia) can cause confusion, poor focus and light-headedness.
10. High blood pressure that is hard to control
Kidneys help control blood pressure. When they are damaged, blood pressure often stays high even with medicines.
⚠️ Important note
These signs do not always mean kidney disease, but if you notice several of them together, especially swelling and urine changes, you should get a simple urine test and blood test done as soon as possible.
