🥚 Should You Eat Eggs With Blood Spots?

Posted on April 18, 2026 By Adeline No Comments on 🥚 Should You Eat Eggs With Blood Spots?

Short answer: Yes — in most cases, it’s safe. But there are a few things you should know before you decide.

🔴 What Are Blood Spots in Eggs?

Blood spots are tiny red or brown specks you sometimes see in the yolk. They happen when a small blood vessel breaks during egg formation inside the hen.

👉 Important:

It does NOT mean the egg is fertilized

It’s simply a natural, harmless occurrence

🥄 Is It Safe to Eat?

✔️ Generally safe if:

The egg smells normal

The egg is properly cooked

Cooking destroys harmful bacteria, so a small blood spot won’t hurt you.

⚠️ When You Should NOT Eat It

Avoid the egg if:

It smells bad (rotten or sulfur-like)

The white looks unusually cloudy or slimy

There are large or multiple dark spots

These could be signs of spoilage—not just a harmless blood spot.

🍳 Can You Remove It?

Yes. If it bothers you:

Simply scoop it out with a spoon or knife tip

Cook the egg as usual
