What Do the Two Dimples in the Lower Back Mean?

Posted on April 2, 2026 By Adeline No Comments on What Do the Two Dimples in the Lower Back Mean?

✔️ They Are Completely Natural

Those two small indentations are known as Venus dimples (for women) or Apollo dimples (for men). They are a normal part of human anatomy.

🦴 Formed by Your Bone Structure

They appear where the skin connects to the pelvic bones (specifically the posterior superior iliac spine). That’s why their position is always similar on most people.

🧬 Mostly Genetic

Whether you have them or not is mainly determined by genetics. Some people are born with them, others aren’t—and both are completely normal.

💪 More Visible in Fit Bodies

They tend to be more noticeable in people with lower body fat or a toned physique, but they are not a sign of fitness alone.

❤️ Associated with Beauty (Not Health)

Historically, these dimples have been linked to attractiveness and symmetry, but they have no medical significance.

⚠️ Can You Get Them?

You can’t create true dimples if you weren’t born with them

However, exercise and fat loss may make the area look more defined
